About

I guess my aim is to help humanity live long and prosper, and try to reduce the amount of suffering and increase the amount of happiness in the world. To help with that, I’m interested in doing research, working on projects that let me develop my skills, volunteering, or donating to somebody else who does some or all of those things better than do I.

Mainly, I am an aspiring social scientist with a CS twist. I hold an M.Soc.Sci in media and communication studies from the University of Helsinki, where I’m also enrolled as a student of computer science; I’ve studied math, statistics, economics and history enough to not feel too embarrassed to list them here, as well. My research interests so far have included online advocacy, political participation, and the use of computational methods in social science. As of January 2017, I’m working on Smarter Social Media Analytics at the Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT / Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki.

Besides that, I’m a climate activist at various organizations and an occasional freelance writer. I also co-founded a small indie game studio, Kamara and try to devote some of my time to doing game design and programming there. I’m often found online using the pseudonym aasitus. I like cats, fancy beers and epic board games.

I looked pretty much like this in December 2016.
